Subject: [PATCH] BUG: Fix long standing bug that was introduce by jpr at rev
 1.51, 2006/07/10. I have absolutely no clue what the code is supposed to do.
 I do not even understand why in the first place the code was changed from the
 very simple initial (working) implementation
